There were no visible signs of where the water had been getting in, so we had to remove all of the old membrane which was fibreglass. It revealed this large 6mm. wide crack, right accross the roof. We have opened up the crack to make a large 'V'. The crack is painted with pitch and then tar is melted in to fill the original crack. The 'V' which was cut in, was then cemented in level and the usual process of sealing the roof -'Laprima'- style was begun.
Firstly the entire roof is thoroughly cleaned and then painted with black bitumen. Then the bitumen backed aluminium, which remains flexible over the years is melted down.

This is the finished job and it is belt and braces. Quite apart from the original repair, the roof has had 5 coats of paint as well as the aluminium backed ashpalt melted down. Providing that the top layer of plastic paint is checked every year and repainted if found to be breaking up, this job will last for at least ten years. |
